Text Box: The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS) grew in the spirit of the Specialised Catholic Action movements that were inspired by Joseph Cardijn (the founder of the Young Christian Workers) in the late 1920’s. The International Coordination was established in 1946 in the wake of the Second World War. Currently IYCS brings together 85 national movements of secondary and university students from seven continental regions.
An International Movement present in 7 continental regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, North America and the Pacific). The movement is coordinated at the local, diocesan, national, regional and international levels with a membership of millions of secondary and university students in 85 National movements around the world.
-The supreme expression of the international movement is the gathering of all the affiliated national movements in the World Council (WC), which meets every four years, to reflect on its work, formulate new orientations and elect a International Team to coordinate the movements for the following four years. If a WC is materially impossible to organise an International Committee (IC) of regional representatives is held in its place.
-The International Team is based in Paris, France  coordinates the movement in close collaboration with the regional Coordinations. Once a year, representatives of the regional coordination's come together with the International Team for an International Coordination Meeting (ICM).

A Formative Student Movement aimed at transforming themselves and the society they live in. We believe that it is through a “Review of Life” process using the “see-judge-act“ method that we discover God more deeply. The movement is thus rooted in a spirituality of action and reflection.
A Lay Movement of the Catholic Church that promotes active participation of students in the life of the Church. IYCS is an International Catholic Organisation (ICO), recognised by the Holy See. Through our engagement with various departments of the Vatican and with Bishops at all level, we enable the voice of students to be heard within the Church and to contribute to its growth.
A Movement engaged in Global Issues playing an active role within the United Nations (UN) system. IYCS have consultative status with the UN Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1998 and operational relations with UNESCO. IYCS makes interventions and advocate particularly on issues concerning youth, education, human rights, development and gender. IYCS is also present in other gatherings and debates in civil society e.g. World Social Forum.
A Movement in collaboration with Pax Romana-IMCS (International Movement of Catholic Students) Having developed many common perspectives on their missions in the student milieu and in order to strengthen the presence of the church among students, IYCS and IMCS have developed a strong collaboration, while respecting the specificity and independence of each movement. At the international level, the two International Teams work closely together sharing the same office in Paris with a common International chaplain. There are also some joint regional Coordinations namely in Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Furthermore, there are a number of common activities, including an annual International Formation Session.

We believe that international dimension offers us a chance to promote solidarity, to share our joys and concerns, to undertake significant action and discover the universality of the message of the gospel.
